Peirce's 2022 Local School Election Primer.
The Racial Equity Parent group (REP) is pleased to present this primer to the Peirce community as a resource for the upcoming Local School Council (LSC) election. We've consolidated information here to help parents and Peirce community members learn about the candidates, understand this year's election process, and make informed voting decisions that reflect REP's TEAM values of Transparency, Equity and Inclusion, Accountability, and Metrics:
Transparency: A willingness to be responsive to community questions and concerns and recognize the role of transparency in maintaining trust and holding ourselves to high standards
Equity and inclusion: The belief that the Peirce community should serve all its students and families (this includes a recognition of the various dimensions that make us unique: race, gender, religion etc)
Advocacy: Intentional action towards equity and inclusion, with a focus on inquiry and understanding so that we can continue our progress towards an inclusive, nurturing community
Metrics: A recognition of the importance of data to support our decision-making and evaluate our progress

Why we should care about the LSC election.
LSCs were created on the belief that people whose children attend CPS and those who live in the neighborhood have a say in what goes on in their schools. LSCs are the elected body of a school and approve the Continuous Improvement Work Plan (CIWP), monitor and approve the school budget towards the CIWP, evaluate the school principal, and select or renew principal contracts. By voting in the upcoming LSC election, parents and the local community have an opportunity to elect an LSC representative of their values, priorities, and goals for their respective school.
Candidate Statements.
On Thursday March 25, parent and community candidates running for Peirce's LSC participated in a virtual candidate forum. In this forum each candidate who attended gave a two-minute statement about their candidacy.
